Janeeth Rodrigo has worked in Sri Lankan media for more than 18 years. Much of that time went into moving traditional media brands onto digital platforms. His current work covers the digital economy, digitisation of the public sector, internet safety and digital inclusion.
Digital Turtles and the Creator Incubator
Janeeth is the founder and Executive Director of Digital Turtles, a digital strategy and content studio in Sri Lanka and Singapore. The studio plans content, runs campaigns and produces video for brands, creators and organisations.
Digital Turtles also runs the Creator Incubator, the first programme of its kind in Sri Lanka. It works like a start-up incubator for independent creators. Young people from every community in the country learn to make content, earn from it, and use their reach in civic life.
Media
From 2009 to 2024 he was General Manager of Derana Macroentertainment, the digital arm of the broadcaster TV Derana. Its subsidiaries are Pulse, Mogo Studios and Mogo Games. He also led IdeaHell, a creator space and YouTube-approved multi-channel network.
Training and civic work
- International Republican Institute (IRI). More than 40 trainings for political parties across Sri Lanka, on digital strategy, video, social media, misinformation, hate speech, inclusive communication, campaign management and influencer marketing. He also ran a three-day multi-party workshop in Cambodia.
- Emerging Leaders Academy. Sessions for young people who plan to run for office: empathy mapping, storytelling, digital and guerrilla marketing, misinformation, and online gender-based violence.
- Women’s Campaign Academy. Digital literacy, community management and online safety training for 75 women politicians and candidates.
- Centre for Equality and Justice. Co-author of a 2022 module on the gendered effects of online hate speech and cyber sexual and gender-based violence. Public institutions, police, media and civil society organisations use it.
- Coalition for Inclusive Impact. A Westminster Foundation for Democracy working group on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery. His areas are digital inclusion, internet safety, the digital economy, public-sector digitisation and the media.
- Parliament of Sri Lanka. With WFD and the National Democratic Institute, he helps the outreach and communications teams build a digital strategy that connects Parliament with the public.
